Vineyards
Our vines, along with our vineyards, are the origin of our unique wines. That is why we only plant Riesling in the best locations of the Middle Moselle region.
We are particularly fond of the old vines that were planted by our ancestors and date back to 1905. With these and the more recent vines planted up until the 1950s, we can still use ungrafted Riesling vines. The phylloxera that caused devastating damage to vineyards around the world at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was never a threat in our steep slate slopes; this is why we were able to continue to plant ungrafted Riesling vines, something that was unthinkable in other wine-growing regions. Taste the power and density that a vine over 100 years old gives to the wines!
In addition to our “seniors”, we planted some new vineyards as part of the land consolidation. This meant the loss of some top vineyards for the first few years. But we are now positioned for the future with a balanced ratio of old and young vines.
We do not use insecticides in our vineyards and only fertilize with organic fertilizers.
